Geolancer Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 17, 2021.

1. Introduction

At Quadrant we take consumer privacy very seriously, and work to the best of our efforts to ensure that our data platform remains fully compliant with industry, regulatory and legal requirements. Quadrant works with the applicable privacy laws in connection with the use, collection and disclosure, including required consumer consent and opt-out provisions.

2. What is Geolancer?

Geolancer is a location data mobile application (“the App”) launched by Quadrant Protocol Limited (“Quadrant”). Quadrant is a location data controller that processes and aggregates data from multiple providers. This assures the breadth and veracity of the data we supply to our customers, who use Quadrant’s data to power everything from advertising, consumer insights, and competitive intelligence, to business development strategies and operational efficiencies, to name a few.

Our business is based on providing services to our Customers related to two major categories of data: (a) device data; (b) points of interest data. Point-of-interest data means detailed data related to businesses and other points of interest: e.g., restaurants, shopping malls, hotels/ resorts, airports, sports and entertainment complexes, and includes information such as location coordinates (such as showing the location coordinates of a local supermarket). Device data, which is further described below, provides observations received from or associated with Geolancer devices and their precise location coordinates over time from which Quadrant derives inferences (“Device Data”).

3. Who are you?

If you’re reading this Privacy Policy, you are likely to fall into of the following categories of people:

“Geolancers” are the are individuals who use the mobile apps from which Quadrant receives or collects data to power its Services

Customers means anyone who uses Quadrant’s Services and includes brands, advertising agencies, media, data analytics service providers and technology platforms;

Depending on your relationship with Quadrant, you may fall into more than one of the above categories.

4. What does this Privacy Policy Cover?

This Privacy Policy relates to: (a) Quadrant’s data services (described in Section below) – these are services that we provide to business Customers (the “Data Services”); and, (b) Quadrant’s collection and use of information obtained through the App (“Geolancer Information”). Device Data is described in Section “What Geolancer Information does Quadrant collect?” below

This Privacy Policy does not apply to companies that Quadrant does not own or control, including Quadrant’s Customers. For example, as part of our Services, Quadrant may provide Device Data and information derived from Device Data (“Derived Data”) to Customers (or other third parties at the direction of a Customer). Quadrant may also provide the Device Data to third-party platforms for resale. Device Data and Derived Data are, collectively, “Observation Data”.  The use of Device Data by Quadrant’s Customers and other third parties is not covered by this Privacy Policy. Customers may associate the Device Data with additional information they have from other sources. To learn more about how Quadrant’s Customers collect, use, and disclose information about Consumers, please review the relevant Customer’s privacy policy; a Customer’s data handling practices are governed by its own privacy policy, not Quadrant’s Privacy Policy.

5. What Geolancer Information Does Quadrant Collect?

Quadrant collects precise location data from Geolancers using the App. The precise location data is derived from information about the geographic position of devices (such as smart phones or tablets) that is commonly defined by the latitude and longitude coordinates generated and collected from devices.

Geolancers will also upload certain information from and about physical locations, such as geo-fences, points-of-interest and venues, and category of points-of-interest or venue, hours of operations, and events.

Device Information means information from the device which may (but does not necessarily) include: Device Geolocation Data, mobile advertising identifier, device type (e.g., tablet, smartphone), operating system (e.g., iOS, Android), app name or identifier, IP address, network provider, mobile carrier, mobile browser type (e.g., Firefox, Chrome), timestamp, time zone, information about the speed, bearing, orientation, and altitude of a device, or other device-identifying information, including cross-device information.

Device Geolocation Data means precise geolocation data from or about a Geolancer’s device, which may be expressed by latitude-longitude coordinates obtained through GPS tools, WiFi data, cell tower triangulation or other techniques, and linked to a mobile advertising ID.

6. How does Quadrant use Device Data for its services?

Quadrant uses various categories of Device Data to provide its customers with location-based data services, analytics services, and audience segments which include customer behaviour and insights analytics, attribution reporting, and footfall traffic analytics. Although our Data Services vary based on the particular service or customer, a key component of our Data Services is the collection and use of precise location data, and the licensing of derivative data products to our customers. For some clients, we create a virtual boundary, known as a geo-fence, around locations of interest, such as shopping centres, hotels/ resorts, restaurants, points-of-interest, and events, like professional sports matches and concerts. We then compare the location data records with our geo-fences to generate visitation, attendance, and audience data for each mobile device. We use the resulting visitation, attendance and audience data to provide our Data Services. The resulting data is used for, amongst other things, location analytics, customer behaviour analytics, and targeted advertising, or if required for law enforcement and national security purposes. For other clients we will provide raw feeds for them to conduct their own geospatial analysis. A list of our trusted partners can be found on our Trusted Partners Page.
